Risk and Control Objective

  • Ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with regulatory requirements, Enterprise Wide Risk Management Framework and Internal Policies and Policy standards.
  • Understand and manage risks and risk events (incidents) relevant to the role.

Overall Job Purpose

  • The Solution Architect ensures that the design of the outcome results to the requirements from the business for IT areas, to respond to a specific business use case, making use of existing IT capabilities and services in the organization.
  • The Solution Architect aligns new solutions to the current architectural principles regarding standards and
  • integration in the organization.
  • The Architect balances the functional and non-functional requirements with necessary prioritizations and
  • compromises.
  • The Solution Architect also organizes and directs the development effort of the system

Key Accountabilities

The Solution Architect is accountable for:

  • Providing technical leadership throughout the lifecycle of a single project i.e. a solution for the business requirements in application/data/technical areas.
  • Ensuring quality of the solution designed to meet both, functional as well as non-functional
  • requirements of business.
  • Alignment of the solution(s) with the overall enterprise architecture and strategy.

Plan and Organize

  • Translates business requirements into functional requirements.
  • Create fit for purpose technology solutions which address the combined requirements of
  • Meeting business need
  • Being deliverable within reasonable time and budgetary constraints
  • Correspond to Group IT strategic guidance
  • Identifying common or duplicative needs across the Cluster and ensure re-use of existing components
  • Ensures that the interdependencies of the systems are managed in the solution design process.
  • Support the Systems Planning process to ensure interdependencies are understood and that the proposed plan is viable.

Delivery and Support

  • Performs in-depth analysis of requests to support the business in delivering its strategic objectives rather than just responding to a pre-defined request,
  • Responsible for creating technology solutions to meet business requirements, in line with Group IT Strategies and Architectures.
  • Working with the relevant Project Manager or Technology Partner - responsible for ensuring that the outcomes delivered by projects are consistent with the original solution specified.
  • Develop architectures based on frameworks and associated architecture development methods, including but not restricted to the following: TOGAF, DoDAF, Zachman, FEAF.
  • Apply architecture methods & frameworks across domains – Business, Information, Data, Application and technology.
  • Review program and change initiatives for integrity and quality in conjunction with Africa Change on a weekly basis
  • Contribute to broader architectural governance activities by participating in peer reviews for other solution architects.
  • Manage stakeholder engagement in order to ensure consensus and approval of the architectures.
  • Negotiate satisfactory resolution to issues surrounding creation and implementation of technology solutions.
  • Support the development of systems strategy and plan for the supported business area.
  • Provide ad-hoc consultancy as required to the business on technical matters.
  • Oversee the Concept Documents received from the Portfolio Manager and craft high level solutions for all new key business requirements.
  • Advise and evaluate between similar products available in the market to meet the business requirements.

Monitor and Evaluate

  • Works with project manager and Group Sourcing to advise on supplier and cost options, and to ensure that the validity of the overall solution is fully represented and considered in any RFI / RFP process, or in the creation and evaluation of proof of concept solutions.
  • Working with the relevant project manager, responsible for ensuring that the outcomes delivered by projects are consistent with the original solution specified.
  • Ensures that solutions adhere to architectural and quality standards and policies.
  • Defines parameters for evaluation of platforms, software and vendors.
  • Participate in Group wide architecture governance forums and activities.
  • Ensure Group architecture governance is applied at a sector level.
