Vusi Mahlasela

Born 30-11-1964 in Pretoria

Mahlasela is an accomplished guitarist, percussionist, composer, arranger, band leader and performer, has bridged generations at home and abroad.
His music is generally described as "African folk". His work was an inspiration to many in the anti-apartheid movement. Born Vusi Sidney Mahlasela Ka Zwane in 1965 in Lady Selborne, South Africa, Mahlasela became enchanted by music at an early age, building his first guitar out of tin and fishing line.His studio albums are " When you come back" (1992), " Wisdom of Forgiveness(1994),"Silang Mabela" (1997), " Miyela Afrika" (2000), " Jungle of questions (with Proud Peoples Bands)" (2000),"Naledi Ya Tsela (Guiding Star)"(2007). His most recent album, Guiding Star, as Naledi Ya Tsela (the name under which it is released in South Africa) won him the 2007 SAMA for Best Male Artist.
